Swann's Way is the title of the first volume of the Novel.
Marcel Proust came up with a concept of involuntary memory, which seems as something that will be happening to losties as a result of the incident. This is my two cents.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Search_of_Lost_Time

This is from Wikipedia: Involuntary memory is a conception of human memory in which cues encountered in everyday life evoke recollections of the past without conscious effort. Its binary opposite, voluntary memory, is a deliberate effort to recall the past. The term was coined by French author Marcel Proust. From this philosophical root, involuntary memory has become a part of modern psychology.

By the way, the last volume of this 7 volume novel is translated as Time Regained, or Past Recaptured, or Finding Time Again.

Maybe the Swan, is really a reference to the Swann in the Proust novels. It is a place where one Regains Time, Recaptures it, Renews it. I know, I'm completely on the wrong track. Just want to get this out there.

sorry for posting redundant information hopefully ...

sorry for posting redundant information hopefully it gets caught, always a bridesmaid, never a bride...lol

@morningdrums: It's Finnish, not Swedish ;)

@morningdrums: It's Finnish, not Swedish ;)

Has anyone considered that the word "EXECUTION", m...

Has anyone considered that the word "EXECUTION", might refer to Faraday's death rather than his plan? I think the bomb should have been detonated at the orchid. If you remember Daniel talked to Chang after a "small" incident had occurred at the orchid before the one at the swan. I think whatever happened at the orchid caused the "original" incident. If the losties had never gone back to 1977 then Radzinsky would have never pushed up the drilling schedule. Therefore they never broke the pocket of energy. Instead the small incident at the orchid resonated to a huge incident at the swan. A bomb at the orchid would have had the reset effect. A bomb at the swan has a canceling effect and perhaps through out a temporary alt time line.

The bomb detonated...and didn't detonate. Juliet sacrificed herself (mostly involuntarily) and saved everyone with the bomb exploding. Otherwise, it NOT going off after Jack drops it, and Juliet falling down the hole right after, is completely pointless and stupid. We're supposed to think he's crying, screaming "comeon! comeon!" and hitting the bomb with a rock.. and then it just cuts and we'll find out in season 6 that... it cuts to nothing special, and Juliet sits there, staring at it, takes her last gap, then dies? The internet base of fans is more likely to appreciate an alt. timeline. The greater audience I really believe are furious however at the thought, feeling that like Gorge Garcia echoed (and lets be honest, that was a planted question, with the producers themselves showing their acknowledgment that an alt. timeline is risky) "the past 5 seasons will be for nothing." What a clever way to incorporate an idea then that already has legs, and show the audience, well wait, the timeline did change, but "you've already seen the change", it fits perfectly with the comicon response they gave to Garcia.

I think in plain english what Lindeloff meant in his "tidbit" quote about Faraday is that while he was correct about how to go about changing the future, it is impossible for him to know which timeline he was in, and therefore what to "execute" differently than had been done originally. In the (season 1-5)timeline, Farady "fails" at acheiving the desired reality where 815 doesnt crash, but he does this in fact by introducing the H-bomb as a "variable" into the equation.

Think about this...

When Radzinsky was fuming, ranting, and raving, insisting they drill through the elecrtromagnetic catastrophe was already underway. Metals of all kinds were bein sucked into the hole in the finale. We know per the filming reports that they essentially go back and recreate this very scene. What if they go back, showing that this event already set in motion by Dharma, was to originally destroy the island? Faraday goes back brings the bomb and then Juliette detonates it succesfully, somehow offsetting the said event? I think what Lindeloff means is that while Faraday has the right idea about changing variables, its impossible to know what you have to change because you havent lived through the life you were supposed to do whatever you did that caused the event you were trying to prevent. Faraday doing nothing was what would have kept the timeline where 815 doesnt crash. I also think it will be very very stupid if Juliette doesnt successfully detonate the bomb. Think about that very last sequnce we see in the season 5 finale. Jack tosses the bomb core down the hole, then nothing. Juliette gets sucked down into the hole (doesnt die) and can function enough to smash the bomb to detonate it, we see a white light (insinuating detonation) but then we find out in season 6 it didnt blow? Nah. It blew sky high.

We're supposed to be getting tidbits for ep 4/5 of season 6, so why then are we just hearing about supposed season opener stuff? My theory is that we see the alternate reality that could have been for the first few eps, and maybe they show us that the passengers' lives end up intertwining regardless. I think this alt. reality will get people talking and then once it starts to get old by the 3rd or 4th ep (2nd or 3rd week) we're going to be taken back to the swan site (per shoot report). The footage filmed (post Juliette falling) of Sawyer devastated, Jack demoralized Kate/Hurley/Miles confused, Sayid bleeding to death and then moments later we're flashed into the "alt." timeline that we've seen unfold through seasons 1-5. Season 6 opens with scenes from the new timeline so we get "our fill" of the full cast going through the (non 815 crashing reality) motions. We see how things "could have been" again Im guessing we're to be shown there are striking similarities sans the island. Also we see the 2007 timeline with fake Locke beating down Richard, Locke's burial, ect. Then by the third week we are thrusted back to the Swan site and the bomb detonates. Like any theory I could be wrong of course (lmao) but then why are we just now getting reports that a wounded Sayid is being tended to by the others in the 4th ep? It doesnt make much sense. Everyone is assuming theyre either refilming or doing some late filming for the first episodes, but I dont agree.

What if it's a play on words and he meant "executi...

What if it's a play on words and he meant "execution" as in the wrong person got killed? With Sayid and Hurley listening to the radio. So maybe they just denied it to play us a little longer - and the not-alt.-reality was planned all along.
We have already seen Desmond trying to change the outcome (in the Pub as well as for Charlie) and he wasn't successful. I am not sure he was mindflashing into in the 'new' Season 06-timeline when he experienced those flashes, because in the not-AT Charlie wouldn't even be on the island, so it could be something completely different with his flashes. But it hinted already at the universe not only having some way of course correcting, but also a really good sense of humour. A not-AT would therefore still be in line with WHH, although in a crazy kind of way. And it would allow for some character exploring and answering of the destiny/identity-question. Therefore it would just be in line with the general story they tell us since Season 01. If it wasn't their 'true' destiny to come to the island, but happened due to their own decisions (maybe it was significant that in the end everyone of the 815 plus Juliet explicitly agreed to the plan), both destiny and free will are shown to be wrong concepts that can't be played against each other. Maybe this is what Jacob and Anti-Jacob are fighting (or betting?) about.

well see I once read that for the season finales t...

well see I once read that for the season finales the writers toss around a couple ideas, and the one that they choose tends to be the one where people are like "nah they couldnt get away with that", (for instance, the island just disappearing.) Now the alt. reality has been proposed by fan theories since at least Season 2. Its something tangible out there that the writers know has been speculated upon (timetravel, anyone? a theme which they denied was involved on the show and somehow became intertwined in the shows "DNA.")

I think they realize that unlike timetravel, the alt. reality will be extremely unpopular, but people will tune in to see it in disbelief, and just as we are like "ok, im turning this off and never watching lost again", blam we're taken back to the swan buliding site where Juliette detonates the bomb and boomb (we're now course corrected back to the season 1-5 "reality" somehow, dont ask me how just somehow.)It makes sense if you notice all the jumpy filming reports. We're supposed to be on what the 4/5th ep and we're just now getting reports for the season opener?

As gimmicky as that sounds, in terms of a fucntion (and perhaps narrtive twist even?) the disjointed timelines will serve some purpose. It wont just be for nothing. It will have to explain how Sun is already on the island in 2007, how the losties from 77 return to 2007, ect.

I dont get overly married to any one theory, but I really think this is whats going to happen based upon what we know. I keep thinking over and over about the comments made at comicon when Gorge Garcia dissed the notion of the alt. reality and Cuze/Lindleoff said "just trust us, on this one guys." I've even seen interviews/podcasts with them where they say an alt. timeline is cheap, copout, ect. Now, but Juliet WILL be his true love in Season 06 - and has there ALWAYS been - but in the 'true' timeline, not on the island.

This would be a very relieving thought because it wouldn't turn Damon Lindelof into that kind of writer that changes his story with the audience's wishes and render a great deal of Season 05 meaningless.

I guess Sawyer and Kate will meet per chance in 2004 at LAX in an early scene in Season 06, won't know each other and - MEH.

Meaning 'everybody' of course - there seems to be ...

Meaning 'everybody' of course - there seems to be some stuff under the 'y'...
