Thanks to DarkUFO reader Andrew for the following. Whilst I'm quite sure this is true I've not been able to verify it. Looks like we won't be seeing Locke in the Premiere episode.
This weekend a close friend of mine, and fellow LOST fanatic, was in Whistler, Bc, Canada for the weekend. She called me this morning to let me know that while she was up there she got a chance to meet John Locke (Terry O'Quinn). I assume they are shooting episode 5.01 right now, so this could mean we won't see any John Locke, or Jeremy Bentham, until at least episode 5.02
She tried to get something juicy out of him, but he was not budging an inch, haha

I don't know, just a total wild guess on my part but weren't Bonnie and Greta supposed to be in Canada for something? Probably nothing to do with this but it was the first thing that came to mind.
I think they are shooting 5x02 that scene with Sayid and Hurley I feel it's for the second episode. The First Episode they are gonna shot later to prevent to much spoilers yet. I am just guessing but that would make more sense to me. So David Reyes and Ana Lucia are coming back for this episode. So I think 5x02 is going to be Hurley Centric after he and Sayid leave Santa Rosa with appearance of his Father and a "chess" (or any other game) playing dead Ana Lucia. So I wouldn't be to surprised about "a still enjoying his vacation in canada" Terry. Namaste!

Well, this could be related to filming sequence or (more likely) the multiple timelines speculation is correct and we won't be catching up with Locke and co. until after episode 1.
It raises questions about other character involvement too. Would Sawyer, Juliet and co. feature? As premieres go, it'd be kind of odd for characters in relative proximity to be divided into present and absent. Although I guess it isn't out of the question.

BTW, I guess it all depends on what the premiere is all about. Now I'm even more curious about the premiere...
Keep in mind that some shows, especially ones that know who prying their fans are, may shoot out of sequence or shoot most of each location at once and once edited those shots could be placed throughout several episodes. Not shooting right now, especially since there are months upon months left doesn't imply where characters will end up.

Sawyer is still filming his film "Stay Cool" as far as I know. So it's very possible we won't see Sawyer or Locke in the season premiere. OR they are just waiting a bit to film their scenes. They have plenty of time until February. :P
I think the first couple of episodes will feature the 06, to set the OFF island time line. you will see ON island as well, but I think the time references are going to be really weird. I also think they are going to tie up as many lose ends from last year as they can,and get that out of the way, In the form of FB. Remember they did say they would have a few FB and FF. You may not see Lock, but my guess is you will see Sawyer at the out set.

Richard is ageless. Whatever the filming sequence, and whatever timeline they're focussing on, Nestor will be there. ;)
In all seriousness, I do hope they get on and show the scenes with Richard and Locke before the last few episodes of S5. I absolutely cannot wait that long.

I think you will see Richard before you see Lock, Early EPs, The Richard scenes will be before the plane crash. The Sawyer, Juliet and the rest of the beach people scenes will be just after the 06 leave, and the 06 scenes will be just after TTLG. At least that's were I'm at, at the moment, but TBTB still have 5 months to screw with my head. So who knows.
I saw Mr. Locke too in Whistler. He was at an Irish pub, go figure.
I agree with MDA Productions, maybe he just not shooting his scenes yet or already has. Who wouldn't want to come to beautiful BC for a weekend on your down time anyway?!
On a side note, would your friend happen to be the cute brunette with the edgy haircut? Haha.
Terry was on the Fuselage last week and said he was in HI. Maybe he was just in Canada for a few days. I don't see how this proves he's not going to be seen in the premiere.

Last we heard (it's here somewhere on this site) Nestor Carbonell was on his way to Hawaii and had allegedly signed on to a bigger contract I do believe.

Being in Canada really means nothing as far as him being in the first few episodes as lots of people here have already mentioned they don't shoot things chronologically and it's many months before the first episode will even be done. And besides a flight from Canada to Hawaii doesn't take all that long.
But I wish he wouldn't be in the first few episodes because that would almost guarantee a big entrance once he did show up again.
The scenes and their shoot period always differs from what we generally calculate or guess. They might shoot a Locke seen and add it to the episode on December 29th or January 4th. Shooting and editing is very easy for them, also very difficult if you think it for a whole episode.
Also non of the actors from the series would give up something, because now it is a thin line that the producers doesn't want to give away and we want everything so much, so they would probably lie. Or they will directly give us the information such as Michael Emerson had given the hint that he might have had a secret scene in season 4 finale, which he actually HAD!
